Is TuneHaven available yet?
Yes, on both. TuneHaven is out now on Google Play and on the App Store, free, with no ads and no subscription. The iPhone and iPad version needs iOS 17 or later. Same app, same Free Forever Charter, on either platform.
Is it only a tuner?
No. The tuner is the core and the reason the app exists, but it ships with three more surfaces. Learn has a fundamentals course for every one of the 18 instruments and ten practice modes, including dictation, scale practice and sight reading. Chords has major and minor on every instrument with full fingering diagrams, every voicing and playable strums. Tools has a metronome, drone, scale explorer, chord-to-scale relator, circle of fifths, capo calculator and a practice recorder. All of that is free. You can also pick which of those four opens when you launch the app.
Do the metronome and drone keep playing when I lock the screen?
Yes. The drone and metronome carry on with the screen off or the app in the background, with lock-screen controls to stop them. The tuner itself is deliberately not in that group: it only listens while it is on screen, and it never records in the background. There is also a home-screen widget that opens straight into the tuner and starts listening.
Is it really free?
Yes, and the free part is written down and dated so you can hold us to it. All 18 instruments, every bundled tuning, custom tunings, chromatic mode, reference tones, A4 calibration, temperaments, every notation system and meter style, the fundamentals course for each instrument, the practice modes, and the metronome, drone, scales, circle of fifths, capo and recorder are free forever. The Free Forever Charter lists them explicitly, and its changelog is add-only: entries can join that list, and nothing may ever leave it.
What does Pro actually unlock?
Pro is a one-time unlock, never a subscription. It adds the chord types beyond major and minor, the course levels past the fundamentals, practice history and insights, String Health, the overtones view, extra colour palettes and a supporter badge. Nothing that is free today moves into Pro later.
Does it need an internet connection?
No, and it could not use one if it wanted to. TuneHaven does not request the Internet permission at all, so the operating system will not let it transmit anything. Tuning, the courses and every tool work with the device in airplane mode.
What data does it collect?
None. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking. The microphone is the only permission the app needs in order to work, and the audio it captures is analysed on the device and discarded immediately — never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. It cannot be sent anywhere: the app does not hold the Internet permission at all. Android may also ask to show notifications, which is only used for the lock-screen controls when the drone or metronome plays in the background; decline it and the audio still works.
Which instruments does it tune?
Eighteen, plus voice: guitar, bass, double bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, tenor banjo, violin, viola, cello, charango, bouzouki, oud, cavaquinho, cuatro, balalaika, banjolele and lap steel. Guitar alone ships with standard, drop D, drop C, DADGAD, open G, open D, and 7-, 8- and 12-string tunings. Chromatic mode handles anything else with a pitch.
Why does my tuner keep jumping to a different string?
Because most tuners guess. When a note is ambiguous they pick the nearest target and commit to it, which is how you end up tuning the A string toward D. TuneHaven will suggest a string, but it will not silently switch the one you selected, and when it cannot identify a pitch confidently it says so instead of showing you a number it does not believe.
Why did my old tuner make me tune a low string way too high?
That is an octave error. Low strings put more energy into their overtones than into their fundamental, so a detector that grabs the loudest component reads the octave above and tells you to tune up until you reach it. On a bass or a low E that is how strings break. TuneHaven filters the octave candidates rather than trusting whichever peak is loudest.
Can I use it for a bowed instrument or for singing?
Yes. Violin, viola, cello and double bass ship with their standard tunings, and voice mode gives a chromatic readout tuned for the way a sung note behaves. Both use the same octave-honest detection as the strings.
Does it work left-handed, or with a screen reader?
Yes to both, at no cost. Left-handed mode mirrors the meter, and the accessibility features are in the free-forever list, so they will never move behind the Pro unlock.
How do I restore Pro on a new phone?
Open the Go Pro screen and tap Restore. The store confirms your purchase directly. There is no ByteHaven account to sign into, because we never made one.
